Tyrell Messaging Gateway
Overview
Messaging is at the very heart of everything that Nexus Alpha does.
Nexus ~
- a means of connection, a link
- a connected series or group
- the core or centre
Alpha ~
- the first; beginning
- the first in a series of related items
As well as our Control Room Systems allowing for the capture of information in a highly efficient manner (the Tyrell suite of applications), we then deliver this information to downstream systems (e.g. JourneyCheck) and devices (e.g. pagers, mobile phones). Some of this is achieved using our Messaging Gateway.
Fax/Email Gateway
Our first Fax/Email Gateway was implemented over a decade ago. Since then, we have delivered hundreds of millions of messages using this routing.
Any suitably configured Tyrell system is able to make use of this back-end infrastructure, which includes many banks of phone lines for faxing as well as sufficient bandwidth to meet out client's capacity requirements for emailing. Thus, a scalable solution is provided to clients without the need for individual Tyrell users to scale local communications. For example, if sixty faxes need to be sent immediately they can be delivered in parallel, rather than a fax machine dialling out sequentially - or there having to be sixty phone lines installed on client infrastructure.
Over time there has been an increasing shift from fax to email. Messages sent using both methods can be viewed via a secure web site.
SMS Gateway
As with all of our solutions, the SMS Gateway has been built to be robust and resilient. Used by both Tyrell and JourneyCheck Alerts, millions of messages are succesfully delivered every year.
Monthly Messaging Reports
As part of the service we provide for SMS Gateway users, we provide monthly reports providing detailed breakdown of SMS messaging trends.
Reports include:
- Time to delivery (reflecting whether the recipients' phone was available)
- Delivery Success Rates
- Daily SMS volumes (useful for correlating against severe disruption)
- Reports sorted by most targetted recipient
- Reports sorted by most distributed message
Real-time Web Site Detailing Message Delivery Status
As with faxing, a secure web site is available where the delivery status of messages sent out can be viewed. This includes real-time delivery reports. Separate sites allow for the viewing of operational messaging (via Tyrell) being sent to staff, and JourneyCheck Alerts messaging being sent to customers.
There is an archive facility available where messages sent out can be retrieved and viewed after the event. This provides positive feedback and can help to identify problems with infrastructure, or handset use.
Opt-In/Opt-Out Option
The SMS Gateway features an Opt-In/Opt-Out facility, whereby staff who are not permanently on call can disable the receipt of text messages by sending a simple message to our shortcode number 61161.
This ensures that messages that would normally be delivered to handsets are blocked, until the user of the handset "Opts-In" again. This eliminates unnecessary messaging and reduces costs.
