Support Department

I joined Nexus Alpha in May 2000.  I am responsible for the day to day running of the support department.  My main roles are to ensure that we provide a high level of support to our clients 24 hours a day and that all problems are resolved quickly.  I work very closely with the Tyrell development team to ensure the new features and various functionality required are of great use to our customers.
In my spare time, I watch and buy too many films.  I also enjoy the odd UnrealTournament, and those who wish to challenge us should let me know.

 
 

Tyrell Overview

The underlying concept behind our control room systems is simple. Using a structured input templates, a single message can be entered and rapidly disseminated using a variety of methods to anybody requiring the information.

Tyrell is a powerful data capture, incident management and information dissemination tool, whose benefits include:

  • The ability to keep whoever you want informed with consistent, managed information
  • Faster operational decision dissemination, leading to improved business efficiency

  • Access to a nationwide transport information network
  • Operational, commercial and safety benefits

Tyrell runs on a standard PC running Windows and can be networked via LAN or WAN and operates using three main components:

Structured Data Capture

Tyrell uses a defined set of input templates to allow messages to be constructed.

  • Drop-down lists ensure rapid data entry (e.g. locations) and control of content (e.g. reasons for problems). Standard text already forms part of the message and compulsory fields ensure minimum content is entered
  • Consistent messages are generated, independent of operator
  • The system supports the ability to cut and paste text to and from other Windows applications
  • A transport database on Tyrell can be accessed via templates, allowing for service-specific messages to be selected very rapidly (e.g. for entering service cancellations and delays)

These features combine to allow for rapid, accurate, controlled data entry, with structured templates and drop down lists ensuring good spelling and grammar.

Access to Multiple Communications Channels

Contact details of where messages are to be sent are entered in advance in the system Address Book. Individual addresses can then be grouped together to include any combination of network addresses and device types (e.g. pagers, faxes, or other Tyrellsystems).
Standard distribution lists can then be associated with templates, either as a standard default, or at transmission time on a message-by-message basis.
